work environment for its faculty and staff. It prides itself in its high standards
for excellence and for accommodating the needs of faculty and staff. Emphasis
is on best practices in instruction through team structured programs that focus
on student centered learning.
The Sharjah College campuses are set in the tranquil surroundings
of University City, a planned development of academic institutions with immaculate
gardens and impressive, Arabic architecture.
University City is located in the emirate of Sharjah. The expansive college
grounds are a pleasant work environment covered in a carpet of lush green
grass offset by luxuriant and colorful shrubs and palms.
Staffed by many Western expat teachers, the collegiate atmosphere
is enhanced by supportive management and faculty supervisors.
Depending on the department, teachers are assigned either private offices
or an individual
work space in an open office area.
Campuses have the latest and most up to date facilities and classrooms.
Teaching facilities and lecture rooms are modern, spacious and well equipped
with all the necessary electronic and audio visual instructional resources
including Smart boards, overhead projectors, video players and computers.
There are plenty of opportunities for professional development and
one can stay on top of changing technology through the
many workshops that are offered. There are on-going conferences, exhibits,
forums
and guest speakers.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate and be proactive in
the many events and activities of the Colleges. Whether
its Family Day or Mosaic, there is a calendar of scheduled
performances, competitions and other
enrichment experiences.
Sharjah Men's College and Sharjah Women's College are separate but
next to each other on the same campus area of University
City. It is not unusual for male or female faculty and
staff to teach or participate in activities
at both colleges.
The United Arab Emirates is an Islamic country. The emirate of Sharjah
is by nature conservative and this is reflected in the behavior and dress
of the students on campus.
Housing accommodation for faculty and staff is off campus, mainly
in the surrounding suburbs of Sharjah or nearby Ajman. Some teaching staff
are housed in Dubai, a 40-minute drive away on good roads.
